The False acacia
Listen to the information here!
Here you can admire a specimen of Acacia or scientifically Robinia pseudoacacia, one of the species brought to Romania precisely from North America. It seems that it has settled in our country well, Romania becoming the second homeland for it.
I share with you a little secret, Robinia is named after the French royal gardeners Jean Robin and his son Vespasien Robin, who introduced the acacia tree to Europe in 1601.
The acacia tree is a tree with a high stem, which can reach 25-30 meters and has rare thorny branches. The leaves have 3 to 5 cm and they appear in May. The flowers are white, strongly smelling and appear in May – June. The seeds are found in fruits which are in form of pods of 5 to 10 cm.
The acacia tree has a rapid growth, in just 5 years it can reach up to 10 m in height, has a longevity of over 100 years and grows spontaneously on almost any type of soil. It loves light, endures drought and grows on almost any type of land.
Did you know that...
The flowers are used in food industry, natural pharmacy and as a flavoring in the perfume industry.
In Romania, the first acacia plantations were made in 1852, in Băileşti, Dolj County.
The acacia tree is a melliferous species, the honey made by the bees from the pollen of the acacia flowers crystallizes the hardest.
In some areas of our country acacia flowers are consumed pané.
