The Norway maple

Listen to the information here!

If you want to plant a tree resistant to smoke and dust, that’s the maple.

As such, it is one of the tree species that is used along roads and highways, in protective curtains, etc.

Maple is also scientifically called Acer platanoides.

The stem is quite straight, and the bark is grayish.

The buds are opposite, the leaves are 9 to 18 cm long, with a pointed tip on the edges with few teeth and the petiole long from 8 to 15 cm.

The flowers are greenish – yellowish, appearing in April – May before leafing.

I tell you an interesting thing that many do not know: if you break the petiole of a leaf especially in spring, you will see that the sap is milk-colored, the foresters call it „milky juice”.

Maple has a longevity of 200 years.

Did you know that...

  • The presence of maple indicates high soil fertility.

  • Maple was chosen as the symbol of Canada.
