The Common walnut

Listen to the information here!

What is the tastiest cake? Definitely the one with walnut!

The common walnut or scientifically known Juglans regia, is a species highly appreciated from many points of view: gastronomic, medical, wood quality, etc.

It reaches a height of 30 m and diameters over 1 m. Due to its deep rooting in the soil, seedlings are difficult to transplant.

The bark is smooth when young, later with deep, rare cracks.

The wood has excellent properties; it is chocolate-brown, fine and polishes beautifully. Walnuts along with other species belong to the category of „precious deciduous trees”.

The leaves are 10 to 20 cm long and the fruit is an irregularly cobbled woody walnut with a green outer shell, that turns brown and bursts open irregularly.

The walnut prefers areas with a mild climate, away from early or late frosts and has a longevity of 300-400 years.
